The X-Men franchise has always had its share of controversy. From the original comic book series to the movies, fans have been divided over whether they liked or disliked each character. Now, the latest trailer for the upcoming film, Apocalypse, has revealed some secrets from the comics that might surprise even the biggest fan.
In the comics, Professor Charles Xavier was a mutant who possessed telepathic abilities. He founded the X-Men, a team of mutants who fought against Magneto, another powerful mutant. After his death, he became known as the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity that would later become a major part of the X-Men mythology.
The new movie is set in 2023, and it looks like the X-Men will be facing off with an evil version of their own leader, Erik Lehnsherr (played by Oscar Isaac). In the comics, this version of Xavier died during the events of Days of Future Past. But in the new trailer, we see him alive and well, which could mean that he’s going to play a bigger role than just being a mentor figure for the young heroes.

We also learn that there are two teams of X-Men: one led by Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and the other by Storm (Alexandra Shipp). This isn’t surprising since the first trailer showed them fighting alongside a group of soldiers. It seems like these two groups are at odds with each other, but what exactly is happening? And where does Nightcrawler come into all of this?
We don’t know much about the plot yet, but we do know that the film will feature several returning characters including Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Angel (Zoe Kravitz), Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). There are also plenty of new faces, including Lucas Till as Havok, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Blink, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey.
And if you’re wondering how the X-Men will fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, here’s your answer. They’ll be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theatres on May 4th.
